๐ Pests & Bugs
Why does my Treasure Valley home have so many spiders?
+
The high-desert climate of the Treasure Valley creates ideal conditions for spiders โ warm, dry summers followed by cool falls that drive insects (and the spiders that follow them) indoors. Spider activity peaks in late summer and fall when temperatures drop and they start moving toward warm structures. The Boise area has some of the highest spider pressure in Idaho.
Are there black widow or hobo spiders in Meridian and Boise?
+
Yes. Black widow spiders are found throughout the Treasure Valley โ most commonly in garages, basements, crawl spaces, window wells, and under deck boards. Hobo spiders are also present and are often misidentified. If you find a spider you're unsure about,
browse our pest library or give us a call โ we're happy to help you identify it. Both species warrant treatment if found regularly near living areas.
Why do I have ants inside in the spring?
+
Spring ant activity is normal and extremely common in Idaho homes. As temperatures warm, ant colonies that overwintered underground begin expanding and foraging for food and moisture โ and your kitchen, bathrooms, and walls make attractive targets. The most common culprits in the Treasure Valley are odorous house ants (the ones that smell like coconut when crushed) and pavement ants. Exterior perimeter treatment stops them before they get inside.
What are the box elder bugs that cover my house every fall?
+
Box elder bugs are one of the most common fall pest nuisances in the Treasure Valley โ especially on the south and west-facing sides of homes, where they congregate in large numbers to absorb warmth before temperatures drop. They don't bite or cause structural damage, but they get inside through any crack or gap they can find. Treatment in early fall before they aggregate is the most effective approach. They're a signature Idaho seasonal pest.
What should I do if I see a wasp nest on my house?
+
Don't disturb it. Wasp nests that are bumped, sprayed with a garden hose, or approached too closely can trigger a defensive swarm. Paper wasps, yellow jackets, and bald-faced hornets are all present in the Treasure Valley, and they can deliver multiple stings. Call us โ we have the protective equipment and the right products to treat nests safely without putting you at risk.
I think I have mice โ what are the signs?
+
The most common signs of a mouse problem: small dark droppings (about the size of a rice grain) along walls, in cabinets, or behind appliances; gnaw marks on food packaging or wood; a musky smell in confined spaces; and scratching sounds in walls or ceilings at night. Mice can enter through gaps as small as a dime. If you're seeing any of these signs โ especially heading into fall and winter โ it's time to act before the population grows.
๐ ๏ธ Our Service
How often do I need pest control service?
+
Most homes in the Treasure Valley do well on a quarterly schedule โ one treatment every three months. This keeps you ahead of Idaho's seasonal pest activity: ants and spiders in spring, wasps and box elder bugs in summer and fall, and rodents in winter. Homes with higher pest pressure or larger properties may benefit from bi-monthly (every two months) service. We'll recommend what makes sense for your specific situation.
What does a typical service visit look like?
+
A standard visit covers an exterior perimeter treatment around the foundation, window frames, door frames, eaves, and any areas of pest activity. We'll treat interior spaces if you're seeing activity inside. The visit typically takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on property size. We'll let you know what we treated, what we found, and what to watch for โ no disappearing act.
Do I need to be home during service?
+
Not necessarily. For exterior-only treatments, you don't need to be home โ we can treat the perimeter and leave you a service note with details. If we're treating the interior, we'll coordinate a time that works for you. We'll always communicate clearly about what's planned before we show up.
What's the Pynk Guarantee?
+
If pests come back between your scheduled treatments, we come back at no extra charge. If the problem keeps recurring after repeated treatment, you get your money back. No runaround, no fine print. We stand behind the work โ it's that simple. The guarantee is included with all service plans.
How quickly can you get out to my home?
+
We typically schedule new customers within a few business days. For urgent situations โ active wasp nests, a rodent inside the home, visible infestation โ we do our best to get out faster. Call us directly at
(208) 949-5184 if you have something that needs fast attention.
๐ก๏ธ Safety & Products
Are the products safe for my kids and pets?
+
Yes. We use EPA-registered products applied according to label guidelines. For exterior treatments, you and your pets can return as soon as the product has dried โ typically 30 to 60 minutes. For interior treatments, we'll tell you exactly what to do and how long to wait before re-entry. We're happy to discuss specific products used if you have questions or sensitivities.
Do I need to do anything to prepare before a service visit?
+
For exterior treatments, no preparation is needed โ just make sure we can access the perimeter of your home (unlatch any gates, move items stored against the foundation if possible). For interior treatments, we may ask you to clear under sinks or move items away from baseboards in problem areas. We'll give you a heads-up before we arrive.
Do you offer eco-friendly or low-impact treatment options?
+
Yes. We can discuss product options based on your preferences and situation. Exterior perimeter treatments are generally the most targeted and lowest-impact approach โ treating where pests actually travel rather than blanket interior spraying. Let us know your preferences when you request a quote and we'll find an approach that works for you.

Do I still need pest control in the winter?
+
Yes โ winter is actually when rodent pressure peaks in Idaho. As temperatures drop, mice and voles look for warm places to overwinter, and your home is exactly what they're looking for. Winter is also when overwintering insects like box elder bugs, stink bugs, and cluster flies that got inside in fall become active again when the heat comes on. A winter service keeps your home protected during the season most people overlook.
Why are there more bugs in newer subdivisions in Meridian and Eagle?
+
New construction areas โ especially those built on previously undeveloped land โ often have higher pest pressure in the first few years. Construction disrupts existing insect populations and pushes them toward structures. Newer homes also tend to have less mature landscaping, which means less competition for pest species. Box elder bugs, ants, and spiders are especially common in newer Meridian and Eagle developments. This is actually one of the most frequently asked questions we get from new homeowners.
